Single-Ply Membrane Systems
Along with the modified bitumen, asphalt built-up, liquid applied roofing systems Professional Roof Systems, Inc. specializes in the application of single-ply membrane roofing systems. There are three different varieties of the single-ply roofing systems that are widely used among commercial roofing contractors today. Those three include EPDM, the PVC and the TPO. Below you will find a brief description of each roofing system. Included with their composition and benefits, we will provide you the basic information for each systems.
TPO:
TPO or thermoplastic polyolefin is a blend of polypropylene and ethylene polymers, TPO’s are considered to be the “innovative future” in the commercial roofing industry. The TPO in short combines the attributes of the EPDM and the PVC to include long-term weathering resistance, cold weather flexibility, tear resistance, puncture resistance, and chemical resistance. Like PVC membranes, TPO’s will not cure after exposure to natures elements. TPO may or may not be reinforced and may also be designed in a variety of colors, and come in thicknesses ranging from 40- 100 mils.
EPDM:
EPDM is an elastomeric polymer that has been synthesized from ethylene, propylene, and a small amount of diene monomer. An EPDM membrane is a cured material and is classified as a “thermoset”. This is simply defined as such that polymer’s molecular structure is “set” as a result of heating during the manufacturing process. EPDM sheets are available in a variety of colors, and range in thickness from 30 – 90 mils. EPDM membranes can be installed using one of three methods: ballasted with large stones, fully adhered with an approved adhesive, and mechanically attached to the roof deck.
PVC:
PVC or polyvinyl chloride is produced by the polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer. PVC membrane can be non-reinforced or reinforced with glass fibers or polyester fabric. They come in thicknesses ranging from 45-96 mills. PVC membranes can be installed by mechanically attaching the membranes to the roof deck. They are then fully adhered with and approved adhesive, stone ballasted, and paver ballasted. PVC membranes do not cure after exposure to the elements therefore remains heat weldable throughout the lifetime of the roof.

Asphalt Built-up Roof System
Built-up Roofs (BUR) have one of the longest histories in the construction trades. In fact, they date back to the Egyptians. These asphalt systems are most often used for institutional, commercial, and industrial applications. Some of the advantages of the Built-Up Roof Systems include durability and competitive life-cycle costs. The typical BUR roof system begins with the roof decking that is covered by insulation panels multiple plies of felt are then mopped over the top with hot asphalt mixtures and then completed with a gravel or coating.
Professional Roof Systems Inc has been installing high quality roofs for a variety of corporations for over 3 decades. Our BUR roofing/ professionals work closely with government officals, roofing/construction consultants, and private builders to ensure safe and efficient installations of both hot and cold applications. Our Built-Up Roof systems installation team is extremely knowledgeable in the very latest innovations of the BUR system. We are totally capable of installing BUR roof systems on any type of building regardless of its size or use.
Our BUR superintendents, foremen, and crews are dedicated to the importance of a safe work practices and management protocol, especially during the application of hot mopped asphalt systems and torch laid systems. Each and every one of us at Professional Roof Systems, Inc will ensure to keep you well-informed and fully knowledgeable of the installation of your new BUR roof system.
Modified Bitumen Roofing System
The Modified Bitumen roofing system is similar to the tar and gravel roof in that this roof adds layers of polyester or fiberglass with bitumen. These additional layers add strength and resistance to a flat roof. The Modified Bitumen system is also considered to be the “hybrid” in that they incorporate the high tech formulation and prefabrication advantages of single-ply with some of the traditional installation techniques used in built-up roofing.
There are several surfacing options for this system, which include a factory applied mineral surface, a gravel surface laid in bitumen or a liquid coating that is typically reflective in nature
Modified Bitumen membranes can be applied with hot asphalt or heat applied application. Hot applied modified bitumen membranes roofs incorporate the durability and strength of built-up roofs with lightweight and reflectivity of single-ply roof systems.
Including single-ply membrane roofing systems, Professional Roof Systems, Inc. also specializes in the design and installation of modified bitumen roofing systems. Modified Bitumen membrane roof systems have a proven track record of almost four decades. Modified bitumen roof systems have quickly become the roof systems of choice by architects, school districts, building owners and many more. At Professional Roof Systems Inc. our foremost priority is always the needs of our client. We will ensure that we have met those needs and exceeded your expectations every step of the way
